The United Midget Racing Association was welcomed once again by the fans and crew at Mt. Lawn Speedway in New Castle. Even though only nine drivers showed up with their crews and TQ Midgets, it was an exciting night for racing on the asphalt track. The fans were shockingly surprised by the speed the TQ Midgets put out. A big thanks once again to Roland Concrete and Gray Auto for their support for making the race a true success!
The night started off with qualifying action. Each drive had two laps to record the fasted time. Qualifying with the fastest time was veteran driver and 2012 two time Mt. Lawn feature winner Terry Goff. Goff recorded a fast lap of 16.088. Eric Fehrman in his #19 car was second with a lap time of 16.459. The third fastest time came from Kevin Blue out of Franklin with a lap time of 16.487.
The fans got to see the top four qualifiers in a very quick four lap Dash Race. With only four laps in the race, it was almost over in no time flat. Trent Henderson racing for Goff Racing had the fourth fastest lap time in qualifying action, which gave him the pole position in the Dash Race. Kevin Blue started outside position in Row #1, and Eric Fehrman along with Terry Goff secured Row #2. Once again, by the time the Green Flag was out, Flagman Rex was picking up the Checkered Flag to wave for the winner. It did not take long for Fehrman and Goff to pass the first row. Goff finished in first, with Fehrman a close behind second place finish. Kevin Blue recorded a third place finish, and Trent Henderson was fourth.
The Heat Race brought out all nine drivers for eight laps on the asphalt. Johnny Goff and his #2 TQ Midget were back on the track after the car underwent some T.L.C. in the pits after qualifying. He had some oil pressure problems that were quickly resolved by his crew. Goff ran a tough Heat Race leading early, but then was passed by teammate Eric Fehrman. Goff would not finish the Heat Race when he hit the wall in Turn #1 brining out the only Yellow Flag of this race. Once Fehrman took the lead he was dialed in, and nobody from the UMRA would catch him. Fehrman took home the trophy in victory lane. Terry Goff started in the back of the pack, and quickly passed the other racers. He tried to make his move a couple times on Fehrman, but did not have what it takes to finish first. Goff would have to settle for second place, but was there to congratulate Fehrman in victory lane. In third place it was Jason Goff and his #96 Goff Racing TQ Midget. Jason was coming off a huge feature win last week in Montpelier. Trent Henderson was able to hold off for a fourth place finish.
The Feature Race brought all nine racers back out for 25 Laps of excitement. Doug Sininger secured the pole position, but would quickly loose that spot. In Lap #5 things got a little scaring when Rex had to stop the race with a Red Flag. Trent Henderson and Eric Fehrman were neck and neck battling for the lead when they got twisted and Trent flipped his #35 TQ midget. Both drivers were able to walk away from the wreckage with no injuries, and they both would not return to the race. Jason Goff quickly took the lead from this point, but by Lap #9 had his father right behind him. It was a great battle for a few laps, but by Lap #15 Terry Goff had once again started in the back of the pack only to take the lead. Terry Goff knows how to win at Mt. Lawn, he took home is third feature win tonight. Jason Goff was able to fight off Kevin Blue for a second place finish. Kevin Blue had a great night finishing in third, and Ron Hamm ran a solid race bringing home a fourth place finish tonight.
